Green tea may reduce risk of lung cancer
Drinking at least one cup of green tea daily may counteract the damaging effects of smoking on lung cancer according to research presented this week at the American Association of Cancer Research — International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer meeting in Coronado, California.
According to I-Hsin Lin, a master’s degree student at Chung Shan Medical University in Taiwan,”The antioxidants may inhibit tumor growth,”
In an article from WebMD Health News:
Overall, the smokers and nonsmokers who didn’t drink green tea had a more than five times greater risk of lung cancer compared to those who had at least a cup of green tea, Lin found.
Among the smokers, the non-green-tea drinkers had a nearly 13 times increased risk of lung cancer compared to the smokers who drank one cup or more of green tea per day.
While more research is needed I think we can chalk this one up to yet another reason to drink green tea. If you’re not a big fan of drinking green tea (one of my favorites is Good Earth’s Super Green Tea) but would like to take advantage of some of the health benefits, try New Chapter’s Green and White Tea. New Chapter’s extraction process is second to none and according to the company, one serving (2 capsules) is equivalent to drinking approximately five cups of tea!
One more note – if you are sensitive to caffeine in coffee, it’s a good bet you can still drink green tea. One reason for this is that green tea contains an amino acid called l-theanine which has been shown to help promote relaxation.
