Too often, I think we tend to look for magic bullets when seeking a solution to health concerns. Infomercials are great at this – promising one product to solve a multitude of woes.
With respect to building healthy bones, marketers have told us that ample amounts of calcium is really all we need to build strong bones. Unfortunately, it just isn’t this simple. In fact, we continue to take more supplemental calcium than ever, and yet more Americans than ever are developing brittle bones, osteopenia and osteoporosis.
Don’t get me wrong, calcium is very helpful. But it is only one member of the cast. To really build strong bones we need to combine a bio-available form of calcium with a supporting cast of minerals (including magnesium, zinc, strontium and others), vitamin D and, certainly last but not least, vitamin K – among others!
